The traditional means of arriving at the district of Machu Picchu is by train from the cities of Cusco or Ollantaytambo. Another way to arrive at Machu Picchu is  through the “Inca Trail”.

There is not a road between Cusco and Machu Picchu; there is not an air transport either.  However, the city of Cusco has an airport, where many  diurnal domestic flights arrive, connecting the cities of  Lima, Arequipa, Puno (Juliaca) and Puerto Maldonado (Tambopata). As well as Cusco is connected with various roads to  major cities in Peru.

Machu Picchu Town is a little village. Does not exist taxi services, because the distances are very short.

How to arrive to Machu Picchu

The traditional mean to arrive to Machu Picchu is by train from the cities of Cuzco or Ollantaytambo. There aren't roads between Cuzco and Machu Picchu; there aren't airport or airfield.

Also you can come by train from Cuzco to Kilometer 82, disembark and begin the famous trek "Inca Trail" in 4 days from this point to Machu Picchu. Reservations for Inca Trail are only processed with 30 days of anticipation, to be able to obtain the corresponding permission.

Cuzco has an airport with many domestic flights from Lima, Arequipa, Puerto Maldonado (Tambopata Reserve) or Juliaca (Puno - Lake Titicaca). Also Cuzco is connected with many roads and highways.

Normally, the first flights arrive to Cuzco at 7 AM. and the train from Cuzco to Machu Picchu departure at 6 AM.
