Preparing for your Trip - What to Bring?

General Recommendations:

During your stay in Peru is important to take ordinary precautions to major cities and tourist destinations in the world as not to neglect your belongings in public places or avoiding deserted places at night.  We also recommend taking into account the following:

  • Take warm clothes, baggy trousers, cotton shirts, hiking shoes, sports shoes, a good sunscreen and a hat.
  • Be careful with raw foods.  You also have to drink bottled or boiled water and avoid eating food in street food stalls.
  • Most Western European countries not require a tourist visa.  The citizens of Bolivia, Ecuador, Brazil and Chile can enter up to certain cities only with their ID.  Maximum stay is 90 days.
  • It is possible to communicate in English with people who provide tourist services as tourist guides, travel agency and lodging staff.
  • The official currency is the  Nuevo Sol; However, you can use  U.S. dollars in commercial establishments, restaurants and service stations at the current exchange.
  • The credit cards accepted are American Express, Visa, Diners and Mastercard. The use of Travelers Checks  is limited, you should look at the establishment if they are accepted. 
  • Find out about unsafe sites in each city and places to  avoid. 
  • Consult on appropriate schedules for visiting tourist attractions.
  • If you need to change money, do so in banks, exchange houses or hotel.
  • If you drive a car, use guarded parking lots or parking; and do not leave valuables in sight.
